For me, my grandmother is a very special and inspiring woman. We grew up in the same town, only she did in the fifties. Her bigger brother, who was gay, lived in the same town as well. In those days and age, being gay was something controversial. The people around him reacted very shocked to his coming out. My grandmother did everything she could to normalize the taboo, although a lot of people didn’t understand the situation. She has always been a fighter of equality. She passed this on to my mom, who passed this lesson on to me. For that, I am thankful.
