“MYOMY is WFTO guaranteed”
We are officially a Guaranteed Status member of The World Fair Trade Organization, a global community of like-minded Fair Trade Enterprises.
The WFTO certification verifies our commitment to Fair Trade through peer reviews and trusted independent audits in the Netherlands, Bangladesh and India. Confirming we are a mission led enterprise, putting people and planet first. We demonstrate 100% commitment to fair trade and apply the 10 WFTO principles throughout our supply chain.
WFTO prescribes 10 Principles that Fair Trade Organisations must follow in their day-to-day work and carries out monitoring to ensure these principles are upheld.
Principle One: Creating Opportunities for Economically Disadvantaged Producers
We value long term relationships with our fair trade production partners. With the sales of MYOMY products and our mutual support our producing partners are able to ensure a fair income, decent working times, safe working conditions and access to training and personal development for artisans. This gives people the freedom and self-confidence to make their own choices in life and be an example for next generations.
Principle Two: Transparency and Accountability
We communicate transparent internally and through wards our commercial relations. The communication channels are open at all levels of the supply chain. In spite the distance with our production partners, we feel like one team because of our daily open communication.
Principle Three: Fair Trading Practices
MYOMY trades with concern for the social, economic and environmental well-being of marginalised small producers and does not maximise profit at their expense.
We maintain long term relationships based on solidarity, trust and mutual respect that contribute to the promotion and growth of Fair Trade. Fair Trade recognises, promotes and protects the cultural identity and traditional skills of small producers as reflected in their craft design.
Principle Four: Fair Payment
A fair payment is one that has been mutually negotiated and agreed by all through on-going dialogue and participation, which provides fair pay to the producers and can also be sustained by the market, taking into account the principle of equal pay for equal work by women and men. The aim is always the payment of a Local Living Wage. Fair Payment is made up of Fair Prices, Fair Wages and Local Living Wages.
Principle Five: Ensuring no Child Labour and Forced Labour
MYOMY adheres to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and national / local law on the employment of children. Together with our producing partners we ensure that there is no forced labour in its workforce and / or members or homeworkers.
Principle Six: Commitment to Non Discrimination, Gender Equity and Women’s Economic Empowerment, and Freedom of Association
By MYOMY both our production units are lead by women. We recognises women’s full employment rights and is committed to ensuring that women receive their full statutory employment benefits.
MYOMY does not discriminate in hiring, remuneration, access to training, promotion, termination or retirement based on race, caste, national origin, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, union membership, political affiliation, HIV/AIDS status or age.
Principle Seven: Ensuring Good Working Conditions
The organisation provides a safe and healthy working environment for employees. It complies, at a minimum, with national and local laws and ILO conventions on health and safety.
MYOMY is aware of the health and safety conditions in the producer groups. Together with our producing partners, we seek on an ongoing basis, to raise awareness of health and safety issues and improve health and safety practices.
Principle Eight: Providing Capacity Building
MYOMY seeks to increase positive developmental impacts for small, marginalised producers through Fair Trade. Twice a year we visit our production partners and work together on cases, workshops and trainings. There is much to learn from each other.
Principle Nine: Promoting Fair Trade
The Fair Trade movement is about spreading the word. We communicate the real story because MYOMY has nothing to hide.
The impact of our activities can be found on both ends of the supply chain – not only where our bags are being made. Everyone who sells and buys our products is as important as the people who make them.
Principle Ten: Respect for the Environment
MYOMY and our producing partners maximise the use of raw materials from sustainably managed sources in their ranges, buying locally when possible.
Together with our production partners, we carefully select the materials used for the MYOMY collection. We also take into account all other environmental aspects, including waste and energy. We ask our partners to recycle their waste at the different stages of the production process and to make use of natural drying and sunlight to reduce our energy footprint.
